About the Project
The Trust for Governors Island is redeveloping the southeastern extents of the island to establish a global Center for Climate Solutions. As part of the redevelopment, the Trust is reimagining Lima Pier and Yankee Pier to support the new center and expand public access to the island year-round. Yankee Pier will become the primary gateway to the Island while Lima will become a service pier dedicated to supporting the construction of the center and ongoing development of the island. Indigo River has been contracted as the prime consultant to work alongside the Trust and ensure the new design aligns with their goals.
Indigo River, as the lead engineer, is developing the design package for the piers to support vessel berthing, passenger loading and unloading, Ro/Ro operations for construction and other heavy equipment, and pedestrian and special vehicular access. As the prime consultant, Indigo River is also managing a team of subconsultants working on MEP design, landscape architecture, lighting design, and structural engineering.
To accommodate the Trust’s goals, floating ferry landing will be implemented to not only provide modularity, but also resiliency. The design scope includes establishing standards for an determining hydrostatic and hydrodynamic stability, damaged stability, hull structural design, marine pollution, mooring systems, and MEP systems. To facilitate public access, Indigo is coordinating design and installation of site lighting, low-voltage systems (CCTV and WiFi), signage, and ADA compliant access.
Indigo River is also responsible for compiling permit applications to the relevant regulatory agencies including but not limited to USACE, NYSDEC, NYSDOS, NYCDSBS, FDNY, and USCG.
